VOS Nitro Finish, Fixed Bridge

The very first square-shoulder Gibson, re-created as it took the music world by storm in 1960

Introduced in 1960 as Gibson's first square-shoulder acoustic guitar, the Hummingbird immediately carved out a place among the big names on the scene. It is an unmistakable instrument: the Heritage Cherry Sunburst finish, the hummingbird motif on the headstock and the embroidered pickguard make it one of the most recognizable guitars Gibson has ever made. This Custom Shop 1960 reissue with fixed bridge accurately reproduces the earliest version, including the Thin Finish with hand-rubbed VOS process that gives it the look and feel of a well-played vintage example.

The thermally aged Sitka Spruce top resonates with an openness that new guitars lack. The mahogany back and sides provide the warmth and directness that give the Hummingbird its character: full, balanced, and direct, with a midrange that gives chords body and lets melodies sing. The fixed bridge gives the instrument a slightly more direct tonal coupling than the traditional belly-up version, consistent with the original 1960 specifications.

The mahogany neck features a Comfort Contour profile with a rosewood fretboard, MOP parallelogram inlays, and 20 frets over a 24.75-inch scale length. The nut, saddle, and bridge pins are bone. Grover Keystone tuners and the nitrocellulose VOS finish in Heritage Cherry Sunburst complete an instrument that honors the first Hummingbird in every detail. Supplied in a period-correct Gibson hardshell case.
