The 1963 Firebird V is the result of a collaboration between Gibson and automobile designer Ray Dietrich, the man behind Chrysler and Lincoln designs in the 1920s and 30s. Dietrich gave the Firebird its reversed, asymmetrical body and headstock morphology that makes the model instantly recognizable. The Firebird V was Gibson's first neck-through guitar and was played by Johnny Winter, Brian Jones, Eric Clapton, and Keith Richards. Epiphone builds the reissue in collaboration with the Gibson Custom Shop. In Polaris White, the Firebird V instantly stands out on any stage.

The Gibson USA Firebird Mini Humbuckers with Alnico 5 magnets deliver the characteristic Firebird sound: bright, more urgent, and more transparent than a standard humbucker, with an attack that gives the Firebird its own place in rock history. The Maestro Vibrola tailpiece is the period-correct vibrato system of the original, stable enough for subtle expression and direct enough for vintage tremolo use. The neck-through construction with a 9-ply mahogany/walnut neck gives the instrument its typical sustain and direct tone delivery.
