When Gibson introduced the Les Paul™ Special in 1955 , the goal was to create a more luxurious version of the Les Paul Junior. With two pickups , a bound fingerboard , and a mother-of-pearl headstock logo, this model positioned itself exactly between the elegant Les Paul Standard and the more minimalist Junior. In 1958, the body was modified to a double cutaway , which provided better access to the higher frets. The real breakthrough came in 1960 , with a relocated neck pickup and the fast SlimTaper™ neck profile , making the guitar more stable and comfortable to play than ever.

Epiphone revives this heritage with the Les Paul Special Double Cut , a model from the Inspired by Gibson Collection that stays true to the beloved early '60s styles. The guitar features a slab mahogany double-cutaway body , which provides direct resonance and full access to the entire neck.

The set-in mahogany neck has a comfortable 60s SlimTaper™ profile and is topped with a bound rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and pearloid dot inlays . The strings run over an Epiphone Lightning Bar compensated wraparound bridge , which is bolted directly into the body for added sustain and resonance.
