For many guitarists, the Gibson J-160E needs no introduction. It's the guitar Lennon and Harrison played in the early Beatles years, seen on The Ed Sullivan Show and heard on countless legendary recordings. Introduced in 1954 as the second acoustic Gibson model with built-in electronics, the J-160E was designed from the start as a versatile workhorse for artists who wanted to play both acoustically and amplified. The J-160E Original brings that legacy back with thoughtful modern updates that elevate its acoustic and electric performance.

Where the original J-160E had a laminated top with ladder bracing, the Original features a solid Sitka Spruce top with traditional scalloped X-bracing. The result is a full, open acoustic tone that the originals lacked. The distinctive P-90 pickup has been replaced with a hum-cancelling P-90 DC, offering the same recognizable tone and dynamics but without stage interference. Volume and tone controls with 60s Gold Top Hat knobs are mounted on the soundboard, and the output jack is located on the side.

The mahogany neck features a SlimTaper profile and is joined to the body at the 15th fret via a compound dovetail joint with hot hide glue. The bound rosewood fretboard has 20 frets and acrylic trapezoid inlays. Gotoh Keystone nickel tuners, a bone nut and saddle, TUSQ bridge pins, and the rosewood Belly Up bridge complete an instrument that is as versatile as the original, but with the tonal qualities modern players expect.
