The Southern Jumbo Original: jumbo projection with the body depth of a J-45 and a sound deeply rooted in American music history
The Gibson Southern Jumbo Original has a legacy that dates back to the heart of American country, blues, and folk music. Its round shoulders and jumbo shape provide powerful, forward-focused projection, while the slightly shallower body depth respects its J-45 heritage and makes the guitar more comfortable than most jumbos. The Sitka Spruce top on solid mahogany back and sides delivers a warm, open tone with clear midrange, sparkling overtones, and excellent dynamic response, from subtle fingerstyle to robust strumming. The LR Baggs VTC pickup transparently captures all of this for stage use.
The hand-scalloped X-brace allows the top maximum freedom to resonate. The MOP Parallelogram inlays on the rosewood fretboard and the Traditional Belly-Up bridge give the Southern Jumbo the classic look befitting its legacy. The volume and tone controls in the soundhole are discreet yet easily accessible.
The mahogany neck features a SlimTaper profile with a rosewood fretboard, 22 frets, and a 12-inch radius over a 24.75-inch scale length. The compound dovetail neck joint with hot hide glue maximizes resonance and transfer. Open back tuners complete the vintage character. Supplied with a hardshell case.
